TE 836 Awards and Classics of Children's Literature

Course Description:
Through this course I learned how books are nominated for awards and how the award process is at times imperfect. I have also learned the importance of creating a balanced classroom library filled with books that win various awards in children's literature along with books that are not necessarily award winners in order to have an interest level for all of my students. Through several class discussions with my peers we have looked at what defines a "best" book and what is important to us when we find a book we enjoy. This class has allowed me to get acquainted with books that I have never read along with reminding me of some favorites from my childhood. Most importantly, this course has taught me the significance literature has on children and how important it is to get children interested and talking about books.
